Artificial reef to support marine ecosystem

Construction on a new artificial reef in Lake Pelto, south of Cocodrie, began Tuesday and is expected to support small marine life as well as popular sportfish.

The reef is a cooperative effort between the Coastal Conservation Association of Louisiana, Chevron, Building Conservation Trust and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. It is the second enhancement to the Point Mast reef, which is located in lower Terrebonne Bay and was originally built in 1985.
