In February 2017 a barge was loaded and deployed at the Cat Island Reef site in the Western Sound, Mississippi. This project will rebuild a degraded artificial reef that was permitted for Cat Island in 2002. 207.4 short tons of culverts were deployed at four sites on the reef. The depth of the water makes it perfect for deploying these concrete structures that will provide prime habitat through out the year. Cat Island is a popular location for recreational anglers. Building Conservation Trust, the national habitat program of Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) is proud to partner on this marine habitat project with CCA Mississippi and Mississippi Department of Marine Resources!
